Besakih Temple

Pura Agung Besakih Besakih located in the village, Rendang district, located in southwest slopes of Mount Agung is the highest mountain in Bali. Access from Denpasar to reach this place is about 25 km to the north of the City Semarapura - Klungkung.

Pura Besakih deliberately selected the location in the village which is considered sacred because it was high, called Hulundang Basukih which later became the village of Besakih. The name of Besakih was derived from Sanskrit, wasuki or in Old Javanese basuki which means congratulations. In addition, Pura Besakih name constituted also by mithologi Naga Basuki as a counterweight Mount Mandara.

The number of relics of megalithic era, such as menhirs, stone throne, pyramid terrace structure found in Pura Besakih complex shows that as a consecrated place of Besakih appears to originate from a very old age, long before the influence of Hinduism.
Besakih temple complex built on the balance of nature in the concept of Tri Hita Karana, where the setting is adjusted based on the direction of the wind so that the structure can represent nature as the symbolism of the balance. Each of? Each direction of the wind is called a mandala with deities ruling called "Gods Lokapala Chess" in which the mandala center as its axis, so the fifth mandala manifested into "Panca Dewata".

Pura Besakih translation structure based on the concept of the cardinal directions, are:

• Penataran Pura Agung Besakih as the center of the mandala in the direction of Central and is the largest temple of the existing temple, devoted to worship the god Çiwa.
• Dark Temple on the east to worship the god Içwara.
• Pura Kiduling Kereteg in the south to worship Lord Brahma.
• Ulun Kulkul on westward to worship the god Mahadeva.
• Batumadeg on North Temple to worship the god Vishnu.
